The nationwide smoking ban is now in effect starting today, July 23, 2017. Executive Order No. 26 (Providing for the Establishment of Smoke-free Environment in Public and Enclosed Places) prohibits smoking in enclosed public places and conveyances.
Accordingly, the ban will still be enforced despite the absence of its implementing rules and regulations. EO 26 bans smoking in public places such as schools, workplaces, sidewalks, public vehicles and areas in which fire hazards are present. However, EO 26 also allows the establishment of designated smoking areas (DSA). E-cigarettes and vapes are not covered by EO 26.
The Department of Health is urging the public to report violations to DOH Hotline (02)711-1002.
