The national government has just launched the Northern Mindanao Regional Development Plan for 2017-2022 which will become the blueprint for the region’s development over the next six years which includes Cagayan de Oro becoming the country’s 4th metropolitan area, a Mindanao Tech Park in Alubijid town, and realizing the Cagayan-Iligan Industrial and Trade Corridor, among others.
In the launching event held at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, the plan is summarized as quoted below.
Northern Mindanao is the major transshipment hub and industrial center in the South due to its strategic location. It is being developed as the GATEWAY to the island of Mindanao that is internationally competitive, socially cohesive, environmentally sustainable and economic growth that is inclusive.

Among the major infrastructure projects included are: Panguil Bay Bridge, Mindanao Railway, Laguindingan Seaport, Don Carlos (Bukidnon) Airport, Laguindingan Aerotropolis, more lateral highways, among others. The plan also listed the region’s eco-tourism sites.
The 300-hectare Mindanao Tech Park located in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental will allocate a 52-hectare area which will serve as the regional government center.
