Operatives of the Martial Law Special Action Group (MSLAG) early today, July 5, raided a rented house in Barangay Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro City and arrested three suspected individuals with ties with the Maute terrorist group.
In a report from Philippine News Agency, authorities identified the suspects as Gazim Mantawazi Abdullah, Monaliza Solaiman Romato, and Tahera Romato Taher. Recovered during the raid were four pieces M203 grenade (40 millimeter high explosive), a blasting cap, a 9-volt battery with battery holder, a piece of C4 explosive, eight pieces detonating cords, 19 pieces 100-watt incandescent bulbs, a jungle knife, and plastic bag and plastic bottle containing suspected ammonium nitrate. Police state the materials could be used in making improvised explosive device (IED).
The house was being rented by Irene Romato-Idris reportedly a distant relative of Ominta “Farhana” Romato-Maute, the mother of the Maute brothers who was arrested last month. Idris was not around when the raid took place.
