Court of Appeals (CA) Associate Justice Japar B. Dimaampao, a native of Marawi City is one of 12 candidates being considered again by the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) to be nominated to the post to be vacated by Supreme Court (SC) Justice Bienvenido Reyes who will retire on July 6. Last year, Justice Dimaampao was shortlisted by the JBC for the post of retiring SC Justice Jose Perez as well as that of retiring SC Justice Arturo Brion. President Rodrigo Duterte eventually chose Sandiganbayan Associate Justice Samuel Martires and CA Associate Justice Noel Tijam, for the vacant posts, respectively last March 2017.
A law graduate of University of the East, Justice Dimaampao was born on December 27, 1963 in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. He is the 3rd son of Former Comelec Commissioner Magdara B. Dimaampao and the late Hadja Faridah. He is married to Ma. Gina Perez Villapae of Mainit, Surigao del Norte.
In his profile, (LINK) Justice Dimaampao carries the distinction of being the first and only muslim Senior State Prosecutor, Bar Reviewer, Professor of Law of the University of Santo Tomas and Member of the University of the Philippines Law Center, Committee on Bar Examinations in Commercial Law and Taxation. Prior to passing the Bar in 1988, he passed the CPA Board Examinations in 1983 at the age of 19.
