Named after Segundo Gaston, then mayor of the Municipal of Cagayan de Misamis, Gaston Park is a major landmark in Cagayan de Oro that has seen centuries of colorful events that led to the establishment of a progressive town and now a highly urbanized city on this side of the island.

Cagayan de Oro City will be celebrating her 67th Charter Day on June 15, 2017. 67 years ago, President Elpidio Quirino signed Republic Act No. 521 granting the status of Chartered City to the Municipality of Cagayan de Misamis. The name “Misamis” was replaced with “Oro” as gold were said to be an abundance in its river and tributaries.
