Just days after breaking the 10-year Southeast Asian Games long jump record, Cagayan de Oro native Janry Ubas leapt 7.78 meters to bag the gold medal in the Thailand Open Track and Field Championship last Monday, June 12.

In a report from Rappler.com, Ubas’ jump was still better than the 7.75m of defending SEA Games champion Supanara Sukhavasti of Thailand. Ubas set the long jump record of 7.88 during the Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) trials last June 3 in Manila.

Athletes from Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei took the silver and bronze medal, respectively. With his feat, Ubas is now a gold medal favorite in the event.
