The cancelled Cartoon Network theme park was supposed to be built in a 111-hectare property in Barangay Lumbia, Cagayan de Oro City. It was said to be a smaller version of the Amazone Waterpark in Thailand. This was disclosed by Elmer Francisco, a consultant for the Philippine Economic Zones Authority (PEZA).
In a report from Manila Times, Francisco said the investor which is a subsidiary of popular children’s channel Cartoon Network was proposing an amusement park which would feature rides and attractions from the popular cartoon shows and was in talks with PEZA when the Marawi incident broke out. He confirmed that the said investor is now looking at Central Luzon for the theme park.
He said the failed project could have had a great impact on the tourism industry in Northern Mindanao. Still, he is optimistic on more investors that would still come in despite the Marawi conflict.
