Cagayan de Oro’s Carlo Paalam is slowly rising as among the country’s best amateur boxers today after winning the gold in the light flyweight division in the prestigious President’s Cup Boxing Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. His feat was remarkable as he was the lone foreigner to bag the gold in the tough tournament which showcased some of the best fighters in the amateurs today.

In a report from Philboxing.com, the 19-year old Paalam beat Kazakhstan’s Askhat Zhusupov by points, avoiding a sweep by the host country which took home 12 of the 13 gold medals at stake.
