Cagayan de Oro’s Janry Ubas leapt 7.88 meters to break the 10-year Southeast Asian Games long jump record of 7.87 held by former Filipino Olympian Henry Dagmil during the recent Philippine Amateur Track and Field Association (PATAFA) trials held June 3 in Manila.
Dagmil has set the mark during the 2007 SEA Games in Thailand. Ubas’ previous best was 7.55 meters. His record-breaking jump has assured his place in the country’s athletics team in the 2017 SEA Games in Malaysia this August. Ubas was also a bronze medalist in the Singapore 2015 SEA Games in Men’s Decathlon.
