“Education will not be compromised even with the present Marawi crisis.” This was the statement of Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Leonor “Liling” Briones during the Meeting of DepEd Officials of Mindanao held today at Limketkai Luxe Hotel in Cagayan de Oro City.

Accordingly, Secretary Briones said children who will enroll in Marawi will still be accepted and as for the school facilities and materials, that inventory of teaching materials and facilities has already been made. “Wherever they are, we will reach out to our children.” Secretary Briones, alongside her Executive Committee members Asec Revsee Escobedo, Asec Nepomuceno Malaluan, Usec Alberto Muyot, and Usec Alain Pascua, stated during the press conference which followed the meeting.

It was also announced that DepEd-10 is ready for the augmentation of teachers to cater to student evacuees who are expected to transfer in Cagayan de Oro, Iligan and Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, there is a great possibility that opening of classes in Marawi City will be delayed by two weeks.
