The Fate of the Furious (F8) is the eight and latest film of the action blockbuster series which began in illegal street racing in Los Angeles.
Speed is the film series’ main forte and F8 starts off right on track with a classic street race along the streets of Havana in Cuba (what’s street racing without scantily clad babes?) to a frozen wasteland somewhere in Russia where the team has to survive being chased by a nuclear submarine and heat-seeking missiles.
Somewhere along the way, the major twist in the plot and as often revealed in official film trailers is the sudden turnaround of Vin Diesel’s character (Dom Toretto). Of course, everyone knows Dom will eventually re-join his team at the end.
Fans of Jason Statham will rejoice as he is now a protagonist. Many say his Transporter films should have earned him a slot on Dom’s team…without the tux of course.
The film really delivers what the audience or followers of the series want – speed, action and some ridiculous humor. Not to mention the spectacular special effects of hundreds of automated cars raining over the streets.
The Fate of the Furious is one hell of an entertainment package. I’m giving it 4.99 out of 5 stars. The ‘baby’ was a welcome addition.
