In a press release posted in its official Facebook page, the Philippine National Police Regional Office 10 based in Camp Alagar in Cagayan de Oro City has reported a 32.5 percent decrease in crime volume during the first quarter of 2017 as compared to the last two years.
From January to March of 2017, crime statistics in Northern Mindanao recorded 5,780 crimes committed, a significant drop from 10,307 crimes during the same period in 2015. The figure is also lower than last year’s 6,250.
Police assessment attribute the significant drop in crime volume to diminished presence of illegal drugs in the streets due to intensified anti-illegal drugs campaign. Accordingly, most prevalent crimes are drug-related such as theft, robbery, rape, physical injury, domestic violence and all forms of abuse.
