The Cagayan de Oro City Council committee on tourism recently tackled a proposed ordinance amending Ordinance No. 3661-93, which adopts the Cagayan de Oro March as the official song of Cagayan de Oro.
Proposed by Councilor Edna Dahino, the measure aims to require the singing of the Cagayan de Oro March in all official functions of the city. Accordingly, the song gives residents a sense of belongingness and makes them proud living in the city.
However, further discussion revealed that the city cannot impose the singing of the song on private schools and institutions because of absence of a legal basis aside from the fact that they have their own school hymn. The city can only ‘encourage’ them to sing it. More details HERE.
