It was like a scene in the movies as motorists in Cagayan de Oro City passing along Kauswagan Highway late Sunday afternoon were surprised to see uniformed personnel of Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) with guns drawn, a Toyota Tamaraw FX and two men with faces down on the ground at a motel. The incident was actually a follow-up operation by police which resulted to the arrest of three alleged terror suspects at Resonance Inn in Kauswagan.
In a press release posted in Facebook, Senior Inspector Marycris Mulat said elements of Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) Station No. 1 (Divisoria) backed by a SWAT unit successfully nabbed Sidic Casubedan Oraco, Sainoden Solaiman Bitiara and Oding Magompara Alamada, all of Marawi City at about 5pm at the said motel and recovered explosives, alleged illegal drugs and a firearm.
Police initially acted on a complaint by the management of Country Village Hotel in Carmen where the suspects stayed at Room 314. Found in the said room was a hand grenade and illegal drug paraphernalia but the suspects had already left prompting police to conduct surveillance of the suspects’ supposed white Tamaraw FX vehicle per information relayed. The vehicle was finally sighted at the motel and police operatives caught the suspects as they were leaving the motel.
Confiscated from their possession were the key of room 314 at Country Village Hotel, a .45 caliber pistol; 4 units of cellphones, 4 pieces of alleged shabu worth P36,000; illegal drug paraphernalia; 1 laptop; assorted electrical wires and 2 units of Toyota Tamaraw FX vehicles allegedly owned by one of the suspects.
Police are now conducting further investigation as to the group’s links with the Maute local terror group. The suspects however denied links to the terror group.
