The 400-hectare National Steel Corporation (NSC) in Iligan City, which made Northern Mindanao the industrial corridor in Southern Philippines could be up for a major rehabilitation and revived into a state-of-the-art steel manufacturing complex.

In a news report from Malaya Business Insight, SteelAsia Manufacturing Corporation has expressed interest to buy the steel firm.

The City Government of Iligan has claimed ownership of the facility due to tax delinquency.

SteelAsia, considered the largest reinforced steel-bar maker in Southeast Asia and the Philippines, plans to convert the mothballed steel mill complex into a modern and environment-friendly manufacturing facility producing plates, beams, billets, slabs and  sheet piles, among others, which are all currently imported.
