Cagayan de Oro’s Assumption Montessori School (AMS) held off a spirited rally by St. Jude College Dasmariñas, to win 72-71, and bag the Division 2 2017 National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League National Championship.

It was a historic win for the AMS Jaguars sweeping all games to remain undefeated and becoming the country’s top high school team in Division 2 basketball.

Rommel Calahat scored the winning basket for AMS with 25 seconds left before tournament MVP Milo Janao had a crucial steal to seal the win but not before St. Jude missed open shots in the final seconds.

Calahat led all scorers with 20 points while Janao and Austine Mutya contributed 19 each.

St. Jude 71 — Buraga 17, De Quiros 16, Gurtiza 9, Aviles 9, Laurencio 8, Gabat 2, Barquin 2, Wahing 2, Limpangog 2, Mangulabnan 2, Palencia 2, Pedrola 0.
