Motorists are advised that heavy traffic in Opol has returned after part of the temporary bridge approach in Igpit collapsed just before noon today.
As shown below, part of the riprap protection on one side of the elevated bridge approach gave way thereby endangering motorists. As of now, the volume of vehicles will have to utilize the remaining one single lane in the bridge in an alternate mode. Those with scheduled flights at Laguindingan Airport will have to adjust their time and depart now.
As reported in SunStar CDO, DPWH officials state the continuous rains as well as counter-flowing vehicles have contributed to its collapse.
Accordingly, repair is now ongoing at the site and expected to be completed tonight.
The incident caused traffic build-up to as far as Molugan in El Salvador and Iponan in Cagayan de Oro City.
