Basketball fans in Cagayan de Oro and nearby areas are in for a treat as the country’s best professional players will converge in the city for the first leg of the mid-season sporting event as the country’s national team Gilas Pilipinas battles a PBA All-Star Mindanao selection on April 26, 2017.

For the first time, the PBA All-Star week will be held in three venues. The second leg on April 28 will be hosted by Lucena City in Quezon Province featuring members of the Gilas Pilipinas pool against the PBA All-Star Luzon team while Cebu hosts the final leg on April 30 between Gilas against the PBA Select team from Visayas.

This year’s Gilas Pilipinas pool was announced in January featuring 12 players from the PBA led by Jayson Castro and the 12 members of Gilas Cadets led by Mac Belo and CDO’s own Jio Jalalon.

As reported in www.spin.ph, Mindanaoan members of Gilas will play for the All-Star team instead of the national team. This means that in the Cagayan de Oro All-Star tip-off, noted Mindanaoan players for Gilas Pilipinas Mac Belo of Cotabato, CDO’s Jio Jalalon and Zamboanga’s Cris Tolomia will suit up for the PBA All-Star Team instead of Gilas.

The PBA Mindanao All-Star Team will be announced soon and among the current Mindanaoan players in the PBA include Ginebra’s Earl Scottie Thompson of Davao del Sur, NLEX’s Carlo Lastimosa of CDO, Star Hotshot’s Mark Barroca of Zamboanga City and San Miguel Beer’s RR Garcia also from Zamboanga City.
