As if the rare sighting of deep sea animals hasn’t stopped, another marine species reportedly a Pygmy sperm whale was found off the coast in Baloy, Tablon, Cagayan de Oro City yesterday afternoon.
It was initially thought of a dolphin but upon closer look and after photos were posted in social media, some netizens refer to it as a Pygmy sperm whale. In a radio report by DXCC, the dead mammal reportedly weighed around 200 kilos and needed 5 persons to carry it ashore.
Here’s a description of a pygmy sperm whale. According to Wikipedia, “Pygmy sperm whales are found throughout the tropical and temperate waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. However, they are rarely sighted at sea, so most data come from stranded animals – making a precise range and migration map difficult.”
Members of the local Bantay Dagat buried the animal.
