A group of Korean businessmen recently paid a courtesy call on Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano and expressed interest in investing in the province’s silk industry as well as in health, infrastructure and agriculture as well.
In a news report at SunStar CDO, the business group led by Simon Bake and Phillip Park also intends to help in upgrading health facilities and provide assistance to farmers and fisher folks.
The province’s silk industry particularly in Laguindingan town took the limelight last year after President Rodrigo Duterte chose to wear his inaugural barong made of Laguindingan silk. Since then, the demand has significantly increased prompting the capitol to plan the expansion of the silk-weaving communities to other areas such as Claveria, Gingoog and Balingasag. As a long term plan, the capitol intends to put up a silkworm plant which will become a major supplier to a much bigger market in the future.
