Just a few days after an oarfish was found off Gusa in Cagayan de Oro City, another bizarre looking fish was caught by a fisherman off Balingasag town in Misamis Oriental.
Shown below are photos of the sunfish or mola-mola which was brought ashore by the fisherman. The fish was still alive when caught but later diedwhich are usually found in the ocean.
Local fisher folk estimate the sunfish to be at least 60 kilograms.
The sunfish is considered to be the largest and heaviest bony fish in the world.
Because of its unusual shape, it is a rare sight especially for the local fishing village.
Accordingly, the sunfish was turned over to the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources office in Balingasag.
