The magnitude 6.7 earthquake which hit Surigao City at around 10:03pm last night was also felt in Cagayan de Oro City. This according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). It was Intensity 2 in CDO with no damage reported.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was tectonic in origin with epicenter off the coast of Surigao del Norte. Surigao City being the center of the population was hardest hit with several buildings damaged. News reports state it was the biggest earthquake the city had experienced since a 6.9 quake in 1879.
