A new provincial jail with basic amenities and livelihood training facilities will be constructed soon in Initao. This was announced by Misamis Oriental Gov. Yevgeny ‘Bambi’ Emano during the regular weekly flag-raising ceremony today at the capitol compound.
Accordingly, the new jail compound will be built under a public-private partnership concept. In line with this, Gov. Emano is urging the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to immediately pass an ordinance authorizing the same. He further assured relatives of those in detention that a free bus service will be provided to ferry them for visitation purposes.
The existing provincial jail compound in Cagayan de Oro City is located just a block away from the provincial capitol with over 700 in detentions packed in a compound built for 200.
It can be recalled that Ayala Land has shown interest in the 2,500 sqm provincial jail compound in the city. (LINK)
