After admitting that the bridge project failed to address the flooding issue, the Department of Public Works & Highways (DPWH) urged the city government of Cagayan de Oro to immediately remove the structures built by informal settlers along Bitan-ag Creek which accordingly also contributed to the urban flooding last Monday.

Structures built along the creek obstructed water flow. Photos posted in social media showed tons of garbage accumulated clogged the drainage canal causing it to overflow through CM Recto Avenue which reached chest-deep.
