Metro Cagayan de Oro will soon be established as the Philippines’ 4th economic center by 2025, joining Metro Manila, Metro Cebu and Metro Davao, this according to a draft of the National Economic Development Authority’s (NEDA) Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022.
The text on the write-up reads as follows:
“Metro Cagayan de Oro will become the 4th metropolitan center based on its projected population growth and functional role as major gateway and transshipment hub in Northern Mindanao. Metro CDO will also remain as a key educational center in Northern Mindanao.”
Based on the said report, the current Metro Cagayan de Oro has a population of 1,376,343 as of 2015.

The NEDA write-up had erred on the names of the following: Manolo Fortich and Malitbog.
The city is the regional center of Northern Mindanao and houses industries, shopping malls, educational institutions and a variety of commercial businesses. Metro CDO was envisioned as early as the 1990s during the conceptualization of the Cagayan-Iligan Industrial Corridor.
