TD Auring slightly changes course but Signal No. 1 still up over Misamis Oriental




Tropical Depression Auring slightly changed course now going northwest but Cagayan de Oro City and Misamis Oriental are still placed under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 based on the latest Severe Weather Bulletin from PAGASA released 2:00pm today, January 8, 2017.

As shown in the forecast track by PAGASA, TD Auring is now heading towards Southern Visayas (Bohol and Cebu). More provinces have also been placed under TCWS No. 1 as shown below.

TROPICAL CYCLONE: WARNING
ISSUED AT 2:00 PM, 08 January 2017

TROPICAL DEPRESSION “AURING” HAS SLIGHTLY CHANGED ITS SPEED AND DIRECTION AND IS NOW MOVING TOWARDS SURIGAO DEL NORTE.

•Estimated rainfall amount is from moderate to heavy within 300 km diameter of the Tropical Depression.
•Residents of areas with TCWS #1 and over the rest of Eastern and Central Visayas are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides.
•Expected to make landfall over Surigao del Sur between today (evening) until tomorrow (early morning).
•Fisherfolks and those with small seacrafts are advised not to venture out over the eastern seaboard of Visayas and of Mindanao.
•Tropical Cyclone Warning Signals elsewhere are now lifted.

Location of eye/center: At 1:00 PM today, the center of Tropical Depression “AURING” was estimated based on all available data at 80 km North Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur(09.0°N, 126.6°E).

Strength: Maximum winds of up to 55 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.

Forecast Movement: Forecast to move Northwest at 9 kph.

•48 Hour(Tuesday morning):120 km Vicinity of Cuyo, Palawan(10.0°N, 120.4°E)
•72 Hour(Wednesday morning): 210 km West Northwest of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan(10.2°N, 116.9°E)
•96 Hour(Thursday morning):135 km West of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(11.2°N, 112.9°E)
•120 Hour(Friday morning):430 km West of Pagasa Island, Palawan (OUTSIDE PAR)(10.9°N, 110.2°E)

TROPICAL CYCLONE WARNING SIGNAL

TCWS #1(30-60 kph Expected in 36 hours)

Visayas: Bohol, Siquijor, Negros Provinces, Southern Leyte, Cebu, Guimaras, Southern part of Iloilo and Southern part of Antique.

Mindanao: Agusan del Sur, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, Surigao del Norte including Siargao Island, Dinagat Province, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin, Northern Zamboanga del Norte, Lanao del Norte, Northern and Lanao del Sur.

Impacts of the wind: 
•Very light or no damage to low risk structures, 
•Light damage to medium to high risk structures
•Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
•Twigs of small trees may be broken.
•Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

Wave Height: (Open Sea) 1.25-4.0 meters.

The public and the disaster risk reduction and management council concerned are advised to take appropriate actions and watch for the next weather bulletin to be issued at 5 PM today.
