Cagayan de Oro’s Carlo Paalam, who started as a young prospect in City Mayor Oscar Moreno’s pool of young talented boxers, is now ranked 3rd in the world after bagging a bronze medal in the recent AIBA World Youth Championships in St. Petersburg, Russia. Paalam was the country’s lone medalist in the tournament which brought in the world’s top amateur youth fighters.
Paalam fighting in the light flyweight category beat Colombia’s Pedro Alarcon, Ireland’s Jordan Moore, and Russia’s Volodya Mnatsakanyan en route to the semifinals where he narrowly lost a split decision to India’s Sachin. LINK. See final results below.
