The Universitas Indonesia’s (UI) Green Metric Sustainability Ranking ranked Xavier University – Ateneo de Cagayan among top universities for campus sustainability.

Xavier Ateneo placed 334th of the 516 universities around the world that were evaluated in 2016.

UI’s Green Metric University Sustainability Ranking is a world university ranking for universities to assess and compare campus sustainability efforts. It aims to contribute to the academic discourse on sustainability in education and the greening of campuses, and to encourage university-led social change with regards to sustainability goals. Green Metric was launched by Universitas Indonesia in 2010.

Participating universities were evaluated based on the size of the university and its zoning profile (urban, suburban or rural), the degree of green space, electricity consumption, transportation, water usage and waste management. It also looked into the university’s policies, actions, and communication on sustainability, including sustainability courses and researches, among others.

XU’s participation in the survey was initiated by the Green Campus Agenda under the Office of the Vice President for Administration.

In 2015, XU ranked 280th out of the 407 participating universities worldwide and 188th among 301 academic institutions in 2014.
