Hot-shooting San Miguel Beermen routed a listless NLEX Road Warriors team, 106-80, in the 2016-2017 PBA Philippine Cup at the packed Xavier University Gym in Cagayan de Oro City.
Alex Cabagnot started the onslaught with three triples in the first quarter en route to a 31-19 lead after the first quarter.
SMB continued to pound NLEX in the 2nd quarter draining threes and finished 60-37 at the half.
In the third quarter, there was no stopping SMB as they stretched their biggest lead to 33 before resting on an 82-53 lead going into the final 12 minutes.
It was garbage time in the final quarter as both teams emptied their bench. Alex Cabagnot was named best player of the game with 18 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists. June Mar Fajardo added 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks.
Hometown boys Carlo Lastimosa and Glenn Khobuntin tried their best for NLEX but too many turnovers did the team. SMB finished with 18 triples. Aside from Cabagnot, Marcio Lassiter, Arwind Santos Ronald Tubid, RR Garcia, and JayR Reyes hit triples. With the win, SMB climbs to 4-1 for a share at the top of the standings while NLEX suffered their 4th straight loss and fell to 1-4.
