Speaking in Cotabato City yesterday, October 29, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the dismantling of police security checkpoints nationwide, except when necessary and there is A1 information that a high-value target or suspect will cross a certain road.

More details HERE.

However, Sen. Panfilo Lacson urged President Rodrigo Duterte to maintain mobile police checkpoints because they are more effective against those who transport illegal drugs, firearms and other contrabands. Details HERE.

A good, bold, decision by Duterte. These checkpoint chicanes are dangerous, specially at night. Often they are unmanned, or the officer is asleep! They are just an impediment to safe driving. Maybe Duterte might also look at the guards with a mirror on a stick doing cursory, seemingly useless, vehicle checks at the entrance to malls etc.
