Preparations are now underway for the planned commemoration of the 75th anniversary of Gen. Douglas MacArthur’s breakout from Corregidor. In relation to the said event set in March 2017, the Cagayan de Oro Historical and Cultural Commission is planning to hold a Convoy of Hope which will retrace the route taken by MacArthur’s group from Macabalan wharf in Cagayan de Oro to Del Monte Lodge in Cawayanon, Manolo Fortich in Bukidnon.
Just recently, the organizing committee inspected two major landmarks: (1) MacArthur Memorial Marker beside Cagayan de Oro Port; and (2) MacArthur Memorial Marker in Dicklum, Manolo Fortich. Read details on the ocular inspection HERE.
Meanwhile, here are some photos (courtesy of Mike Banos) of the MacArthur Memorial Marker in Macabalan.
Here’s the planned expansion of the marker which will affect a portion of the wharf.
Tug boats are seen at the planned expansion area.
