City set to open new 25-hectare Sanitary Landfill next year

The City Government of Cagayan de Oro is set to open the 25-hectare engineered sanitary landfill in Barangay Pagalungan by June of next year as closure of the .

This was disclosed by Edwin Dael, Head of City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (Clenro). Unlike the existing “landfill” in Upper Dagong, Carmen which is really a controlled dump site (see photo below), the new landfill will be a properly engineered facility.

Rehabilitation of the existing landfill is currently ongoing and will be closed indefinitely once the new landfill site in Pagalungan opens. Photos below show the site in Pagalungan.

      nice. maybe they can do more improvement like leachate seepage control and groundwater monitoring wells to ensure no groundwater contamination.
