RANDOM SHOTS: Cagayan de Oro International Convention Center – is it forgotten?

The 7,700-seat Cagayan de Oro International Convention Center located in Taguanao in Brgy. Indahag was conceptualized in 1998 with construction work initiated on June 30, 2001. The original target date of completion was on August 18, 2003 and with a contract price of P349.9 million (LINK).

But the pet project of then Senator Aquilino Q. Pimentel, Jr. has encountered numerous delays …  in fact, this is now the 15th year and the project cost now has increased significantly. Former Cagayan de Oro 2nd Dist. Rep. Rufus Rodriguez tried to revive the project with insertions in DPWH’s budget including P300 million last year (2015) for its completion (LINK).

With recent developments of Ultra Winds Mountain Resort and Hugo Skye Lounge, both with overlooking views of the project, questions will always linger in the minds of the viewer – will they ever finish it? or just simply forgotten?

Like everything else in this country, start some thing, never finish, waste more taxpayers money! 15 years I’ve seen numerous administrations fumble through typical Pinoy faux pas with no end results. Grr.

The city still needs a convention venue with large seating capacity. Looks like the roof is rusted.

Well, what’s the answer? How about a little investigative journalism with an article like this and give us an answer. Who owns this white elephant and what are they going to do about it?
