National Highway asphalt overlay to continue until 2017

You may have noticed the ongoing asphalt overlay project by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) being undertaken along the National Highway (Butuan-Cagayan-Iligan Road) in Cagayan de Oro City.

In an advisory to the public shown below (courtesy of Mark Francisco), the said project which began last December 2015 will be completed in August 2017.

As stated above, the undertaking is a foreign assisted project funded by the loan agreement between the Philippines and the Asian Development Bank. The winning bidder for the project is China Henan Shuili Yiju with project management being handled by DPWH-Unified Project Management Office (UPMO).

Project covers the stretch from Alae Bridge in Bugo up to Kinasanghan in Iponan. The asphalt overlay will have 100mm thickness to ensure safety for motorists. Work is also being implemented at night to avoid traffic. It also stated that there will be gaps in some road sections due to cracks in the current concrete road which needs to be repaired before the overlaying of asphalt.

The advisory cautions the general public along the project route to be extra careful in negotiating the road with new asphalt overlay particularly at night and in the event of rain due to the slippery conditions and uneven gaps of the road.

Here are photos of the project along Kauswagan Highway taken a few weeks ago.

Drive safely.
