City to cut hazardous trees at Duaw Park, Divisoria

The City Council of Cagayan de Oro recently adopted Resolution No. 12421-2016 requesting the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) to authorize the city government through the City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) to cut or fell selected trees at Divisoria and Duaw Park, which are already tilting or tipping.

The proposal was meant to prevent untoward incidents caused by hazard trees. Accordingly, cut timber will be donated to the city government to be made into chairs or other office or school furniture.

  1. Perhaps it is better to just PRUNE the trees….please do not cut them – they are part of the the city’s history………

Yes! That’s the right procedure, prune dead branches or those near power lines. Please don’t cut the very old trees because these are part of the Kagay-anon’s heritage. I remember that old acacia at the end of the Carmen Bridge near the now Duaw Park used to be used as a display area for movies showing in the city’s cinema. That is before the Marcos bridge and the DVDs 🙂 and the time when entrance to the city is through Patag (wala pa ang Kauswagan highway) and bus terminal is in Cogon.
