2015 DOST-10 Quiz Bowl Awards

The 2016 National Science and Technology Week DOST-10 Quiz Bowl gets going for the second year this Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the at the Grand Caprice Restaurant and Convention Center at Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

A total of 29 high schools around the region will slug it out in the high school and elementary levels for the 2nd year.

City Central School seeks to defend its Elementary Level crown against a field of 14 other elementary schools from around the region when hostilities start at 1:00PM the venue for the National Science and Technology Week 2016 celebration by the Department of Science and Technology Region 10 office.

Expected to contend for the crown are six public elementary schools and nine private grade schools: Bugo Central School, Bukidnon State University-Elementary School Laboratory (BSU-ESL), Bulua Central School,  Corpus Christi School, Kauswagan Central School, La Salle Academy-Iligan, Liceo de Cagayan University Grade School, Merry Child School, Oro Christian Grade School, Rosevale School, Sacred Heart of Jesus Montessori School, St. Mary’s School,  West City Central School, and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan Grade School.

In the high school level, defending champion Gusa Regional Science High School goes for a second straight title against nine public and seven private high schools from around the region 3:00PM at the same venue.

Competing in the High School level are Bukidnon State University-Secondary School Laboratory (BSU-SSL), Bulua National High School, Cagayan de Oro National High School, Camiguin National High School, Corpus Christi School,  Jasaan National High School, La Salle Academy-Iligan, Manolo Fortich National High School, Merry Child School, Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology College of Education-Integrated Developmental School (MSU-IIT CEDIDS),  Misamis Oriental General Comprehensive High School (MOGCHS), Oro Christian Grace School, Rosevale School, St. Mary’s School, and Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan High School (XUHS).

St. Mary’s School is again expected to finish strongly following its runner-up finishes last year in both elementary and high school levels.

However, if similar competitions are also a good measure, MSU-IIT CED-IDS and XUHS will also give the defending champions a run for their money. MSU-IIT CED-IDS is a grand slam winner of the STEAG Energy Quiz winning it for 3 straight years in 2012, 2013 and 2014, when it bested a tough field of 28 high schools.

On the other hand, Xavier University High School broke their run in 2015 when it bested an even bigger field of 34 high schools in the same competition. But in possibly an omen of its rising strength in such competitions, Gusa Regional Science High School-X finished second, while Corpus Christi School was third.
