With the retirement of Philippine boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, the Pagara brothers of Cagayan de Oro City were supposed to be the country’s next big prospects in the ring and yesterday, produced contrasting results after facing separate opponents in yesterday’s Pinoy Pride 37 held at the San Mateo Event Center in San Mateo, California.
The highly-touted Prince Albert Pagara suffered his first career loss at the hands of Mexican Cesar Juarez via knockout in the 8th round. The 22-year old Pagara started strong flooring the wildly punching Juarez with a well-timed left hook to the jaw 10 seconds before the bell in the 1st round. But the tough Mexican proved to be durable as advertised and took the fight out of the young Pagara with relentless body attack and finally dropped the champion for the count in the 8th round.
Meanwhile, the elder Jason Pagara was all business knocking out Abraham Alvarez 55 seconds into the 3rd round.
