Child chess prodigy from CDO now an ASEAN Master after winning gold in Thailand tourney

Cagayan de Oro pride Ruelle “Tawing” Canino bagged the 8-under girls standard class in the just concluded 17th Asean age-group chess championship at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Pattaya, Thailand.

The pint-sized Canino also won a silver in the blitz category and was part of the Philippine Team which took home 29 gold medals in the event (LINK). Photo below shows Canino with Asia’s first Grand Master Eugene Torre.


With the win, Ruelle is now an ASEAN Master as indicated in the certificate.
