CDO mayor to speak in 2016 Global Development Forum in Washington

Re-elected Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno prides himself as the only Filipino to speak in the 2016 Global Development Forum (GDF) which will be held at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) on May 19 in Washington DC, USA.

Mayor Moreno will be among 40 speakers from all over the world representing key stakeholders from U.S. government agencies, leading multilateral and non-governmental organizations, foreign governments, and the private sector. Specifically, he will speak the Cagayan de Oro experience under the topic “The Growth of Cities: Fostering Good Governance and Opportunity” as shown (screenshot) below.

The 2016 GDF seeks to address the complex issues highlighted by the recently adopted Sustainable Development Goals. Participants will examine the role and purpose of official development assistance against a backdrop of global trends including rising incomes, rapid urbanization, uneven economic growth, and widespread unemployment. In particular, discussions will explore ways in which official donors and key partners, including the private sector, civil society, and multilateral institutions can improve livelihoods, strengthen governance, and facilitate access to key resources including food, energy, and infrastructure.
