Medina’s ‘Hinuklog’ transcends political differences

by: Archel Z. Cloma

Hinuklog, the street play of the Passion of Christ is now on its fifth year and is continually triumphant in making a mark in many lives. With the administration of Mayor Ken Niño T. Uyguangco, the sustainability of the said streetplay is ensured as he spearheaded the creation of Hinuklog Council composed by the San Isidro Labrador Parish Church, the Local Government Unit of Medina, the Liga ng mga Barangay (LnB), Department of Education (Medina District) and other sectors in the community.

Considered as equally important are the other stakeholders, namely: San Isidro Labrador Parish Council; Axellum Resources Corp.; Medina Tourism Council, Provincial Government of Misamis Oriental, Lumagnong Magdudula sa Medina (LUMAGMED), MORESCO II, Rural Bank of Medina, Duka Bay Resort Inc., MERWASCO, Didto sa Among Lungsod (Medina Overseas Community) and Medina Business Sector. Furthermore, what sustains the said streetplay is the endorsement of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro, Department of Trade and Industry and Department of Tourism and the recognition by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

Apparently, from its revival, to its planning, actual conduct and evaluation, Hinuklog has been made possible by the relevant stakeholders and of course by the people of the community, particularly the parishioners who majorly comprise the municipality’s population. Indeed, Hinuklog is not of the Catholic Church nor of the Local Government but of the PEOPLE, by the PEOPLE and for the PEOPLE of the Municipality of Medina.

With the visible strong collaboration, the municipality patronizes the locally-owned religious activity and of great honor, promoting Hinuklog as one of Medina’s pride. Evidently, for five years of existence, the number of participants did increase. In fact, some parishioners who traditionally go to the island of Camiguin for the past years, preferred to stay in the town for the sake of Hinuklog for the sense of ownership has been developed.

Involving around 200 people, Hinuklog has been the major event of the town during Holy Week where people of different status in life and political party come and meet together with one purpose- to commemorate and meditate the essence of Jesus Christ’s death at the cross.

The gathering is indeed a visible proof that Medina, from a municipality fallen into a DEEP SLEEP has now AWAKEN and STOOD and is proudly ADVANCING.

Thus, this March 24-25, 2016, during the Holy Thursday and Good Friday, the Municipality of Medina is inviting all believers of Christ to come and be part of the PRESTIGE, COLLABORATION, EMPOWERMENT, ECONOMIC LIFT and most of all ENRICHMENT OF RELIGIOUS VALUES in personally witnessing Hinuklog which absolutely paves a way for spiritual unity across diverse political party.
