Despite its popularity abroad, Rugby Football remains to be a new sport for Filipinos. In Cagayan de Oro City, the sport is synonymous with Noel Villa who founded the Cagayan de Oro Rugby Football Club (CDO RFC) in 2013. Since then, the club has recruited and trained players to be part of the Cagayan de Oro Rafters who made history by ruling the Shield Division of Rugby Football during the Philippine National Games in 2014 (LINK).
But promoting rugby football in CDO isn’t just for the love of the game. It also has an advocacy worth emulating amid the challenges every child meets in the community.
