The Agutayan Watch Tower and Light House Project was inaugurated today at the Agutayan white island in Jasaan, Misamis Oriental.

Misamis Oriental Governor Yevgeny “Bambi” Emano and STEAG State Power Inc. (SPI) President and CEO Dr. Bodo Goerlich led the special ceremony together with local officials and townsfolk.

The two-storey structure with a total floor area of about 84 sq.m has an observation deck equipped with a solar-powered LED lighting system.

The Agutayan White Island is located some 5 kilometers off the coast in Jasaan town and is one of the Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in Misamis Oriental, with approximately 5,000 square meters of white sand that sits on a 4.5 hectare marine sanctuary that provides a favorable breeding ground for endangered marine species. It is home to several giant clams and other endangered marine species.
