Have you ever secured an authentic copy of your birth certificate yet? Chances are you may have experienced lining up early at the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), formerly National Statistics Office or NSO at their office located at Pride Rock Business Park in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City.
Clients usually come as early as 3:00AM…just to get the priority number. No worries, an eatery nearby offers breakfast. Accordingly, said office only processes some 500 requests daily so if you come in late, you’ll need to come back the next day early. The authenticated birth certificate is a common requirement for employment, school, passport, marriage and government licenses. Other documents available include marriage and death certificates as well as Certificate of No Marriage Record (CENOMAR). Fees are: P140.00 (Birth, Marriage, Death) / P195.00 (Certificate of No Marriage Record).
Photos taken around 9:00am showed the crowd squeezing into the shade. Remember, office hours start at 8:00AM so those first in line usually gets the priority number and thus served first.
Once your number is called, waiting time lasts around 30 minutes to an hour. What to bring? You just need an application form available at the front desk and fill in the following info, among others:
- Complete name of the child (first, middle, last)
- Complete name of the father
- Complete maiden name of the mother
- Date of birth (month, day, year)
