There’s a new member of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) and his name is “JOEY”, a newly purchased narcotics dog.
JOEY or Joy for Every Community was presented by Cocpo Operations chief Police Supt. Lemuel Gonda to City Mayor Oscar Moreno during the recent flag raising ceremony. Accordingly, the city government bought the narcotics dog in the amount of P150,000 and this excludes other expenses such as dog training in Antipolo City and its two handlers as well as traveling expenses for transporting the dog into the city.
JOEY was trained to detect a variety of illegal drugs such as shabu, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and others to help the police in their campaign against illegal drugs in the city.
It was revealed that just one month from the purchase of JOEY, his first operation was the drug raid which took place at Barangay 31 where an agent was shot and killed by a suspected drug pusher during the operation.
P. Supt. Gonda said JOEY is a big help in police operations and prevention to combat the illegal drug trade in the city.
