National Historical Commission Executive Director Ludovico Badoy and Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno led the unveiling today of a historical marker in front of City Hall.
This marker commemorates the first hoisting of the Philippine flag in Cagayan de Misamis (Cagayan de Oro) that was held over a century ago on January 10, 1899 during the town celebration of the First Philippine Republic.
This historic event was held in front of Casa Real, the present site of the old City Hall building. It was also at this time, when the first elected provincial and municipal officials under the Aguinaldo revolutionary government took over Casa Real, the former administration building of the Spanish colonial officials and residence of the Spanish military governor.
