A new diversion road has been opened as of 1:20AM today December 31, 2014 for all motorists plying the Cagayan de Oro – Butuan City route and vice versa.

It can be recalled that last Monday, the Mambayaan Bridge in Balingasag town was closed to traffic after flood waters caused by Tropical Storm Seniang scoured the soil supporting one of the bridge’s piers causing the bridge to partially “collapse” as shown below.

Because of this, only single motorcycles and foot traffic were allowed to croiss the bridge as shown below. A temporary bus stop near Crossing Vencer, Brgy. Mandangoa, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental was established for stranded motorists.

The new diversion road is actually the newly constructed Minergy Road built by Santa Clara Corp., the contractor for the Balingasag Coal-fired Power Plant currently being constructed in Mandangoa, Balingasag.
