C/LTC JAN ROGIE G MACANDILI 1CL of the Department of Air Science and Tactics, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan was awarded as the CADET OF THE YEAR FOR CY 2014-2015 for having remarkable and excellent accomplishments as an ROTC cadet officer, during the 79th Armed Forces of the Philippines Anniversary at Camp Emilio Aguinaldo, Quezon City. The award was given by no less than the president of the Philippines His Excellency BENIGNO SIMEON C AQUINO III.

Born on January 11, 1994 and a resident of Camp Alagar, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City. He is the proud son of Ltc Robert B Macandili (INF) PA and SJO4 Haidee G Macandili of the BJMP. He is also a loving eldest brother to two younger siblings Vic James and Michael Angelo. He took elementary and secondary education at St. Mary’s School, Macasandig, Cagayan de Oro city. Presently, he is a graduating student taking up Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Financial Management at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan.


C/LTC MACANDILI has been appointed to the position of ROTC Operations Officer of the Department of Air Science and Tactics, Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan. He was responsible for various activities of the corps, which included spearheading outreach activities at the DSWD; his participation in the repacking of relief goods for the victims of typhoons Sendong, Pablo, and Yolanda; in the mangrove tree planting of Junior Chamber International at El Salvador, Misamis Oriental, and in various house-building activities of Habitat for Humanity; and in regular blood-letting activities conducted by XU Red Cross Youth and other organizations.

He also has various positions and involvement which included being a Philippine representative to the Culture Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) program held in Guam, USA on Nov 10-15 2014; he has also been elected as the Student Council President of the School of Business and Management, Xavier University. He was a pioneer member of the Cagayan de Oro Rugby Club, a volunteer of the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting, and an observer of ENACTUS Philippines. He is also the training consultant for Citizenship Advancement Training (CAT) of St. Mary’s School and Lumbia National High School.


C/LTC MACANDILI has also participated in different trainings such as in first aid and basic life support, on search and rescue-air to ground operations, and in various seminars on leadership such the Change Leadership Camp of Xavier University, in Transformative Approaches to Innovative Leadership (TRAIL) Summer Youth Camp by YouthLEAD Philippines and the Building Leadership Workshop of Asian Institute of Management,


He is proud to have garnered various awards. He has been given Gold medals in his High school graduation for being a first honor student, for being an officer of CAT, for being the team captain of the chess and the soccer varsity team, for being the president of the campus ministry, and for being a main cast of the school’s annual musical play. As a cadet officer, he has garnered numerous awards, such as certificates of recognition/appreciation, loyalty award, and leadership award. During his summer cadre or MS-3, his awards include, AFRC Commanders Award, Outstanding Graduate Award, Best Class Marcher Award, Best Speaker Award, Field Stripping Award, and Marksmanship Rifle Expert Award. Just recently, he was awarded for being the Cadet of the Year of the Philippine Air Force 2014.

He aspires to be an AFP officer someday; this is his dream and goal in life, for his family, the country and the greater glory of God.
