Big, big thanks to Centrio Mall for bringing one of the greatest pillars of Original Pilipino Music, the Country’s Premiere Balladeer, Mr. Basil Valdez, to the City of Golden Friendship. As a true musicophile, it was a great privilege to hear Mr. Valdez sing his OPM hits that we’ve been listening to for decades – only on the cassette tapes and on FM radio (and now MP3s and Youtube) – live and up-close. He rendered a few of his hits; to name a few: Nais Ko, Ngayon at Kailanman, Ikaw (a George Canseco classic), with encore numbers You, and Lead Me Lord.

Basil Valdes is on promotional tour for his first-ever Christmas album, entitled the First Christmas, with a collaboration of the renowned vocal group, thePhilippine Madrigal Singers. He is now on his fifth leg of the tour, and this time, with fellow Ateneans, the Ateneo de Manila College Glee Club former members, the 92 AD. He recounted his early experiences as a singer – encouraged by the late Father Antonio Cuna, SJ, to share his talent in singing during his college days at Ateneo de Manila University. Basil Valdez noted that his Kagay-anon audience at Centrio Mall has the best response in his tour, thus far.
