News reports gathered revealed that more than 400 violators of Cagayan de Oro City’s Traffic Code and Seat Belt Law (RA 8750) have been penalized during the first 2 days of enforcement.
Most of those caught were surprised and unaware by the apprehensions made by the city’s traffic authorities. The City Traffic Code penalizes drivers of for-hire motor vehicles if they fail to post signs instructing passengers to fasten their seat belts or failure to require their passengers to wear the prescribed seat belt, or for the drivers’ failure to wear the prescribed seat belt devices. This applies to both public transport and private motor vehicles.
