SLERS Industries Inc., Cagayan de Oro’s leading meat processing company and famed producer of gift or pasalubong favorites ham and chicharon, has just opened its new meat processing plant along Alae-Camp Phillips Road in Batingtingan, Alae, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The formal ribbon cutting ceremony was led by SLERS Managing Director Mercedes “Litlit” Pelaez Mejia and attended by no less than Manolo Fortich Mayor Rogelio Quiño. The new facility is capable of processing an estimated 5 tons of a variety of meat products such as tocino, bacon, ham, pastrami (beef product), and chicharon. It entails to keep up with the projected increase in demand of its meat products. The new facility is just an hour’s drive from the city.
SLERS is actually going back to its roots since SLERS Ham was founded by Litlit’s parents, Ofelia “Fely” Pelaez and her late husband Raul Pelaez Sr. in Camp Phillips in 1969. “Litlit” Pelaez Mejia is the youngest of five children of the Pelaez couple and took over the management of the ham business in 1987. And by the way, SLERS stands for Shirley, Litlit, Earl, Ray, Sharon (first letters of the names of the 5 children).

The SLERS facility is also a good stopover for tourists going to Del Monte’s pineapple fields and Dahilayan Adventure Park.
SLERS meanwhile also maintains a processing facility in Gusa, Cagayan de Oro City. Litlit Pelaez Mejia was cited as among “The Ten Outstanding Entrepreneurs of 2008” by Entrepreneur Philippines.
